PANAMA CITY BEACH— Leftover table scraps from Tuesday night's spaghetti and meatball dinner might make Scruffy's tail waggle.Buthis mouth will be droolingat the meals offered on some local restaurant pet menus.
National Love Your Pet Day and World Spay Day is observed in February. AndBay Countyrestaurants certainly show love. Panama City Beach has developed rulesthat guides restaurants to establishing a safe and cleanenvironment for s and their pets.
“Panama City Beach is truly a vacation destination for the entire family – including family members with four legs,” President and CEO at the PCB Visitors Bureau Dan Rowe states on the city's tourism website visitpanamacitybeach.com.“For some pet owners, it really just wouldn’t be a vacation if the dog can’t come along.”
For $6.25, dogs can dine like man's best friend at Sisters of the Sea, 3901 Thomas Drive at Pirates Cove Marina. Owners can order different kinds of rice bowls which come with a choice of chicken, gravy, green beansand bacon; or a even a burger. A "doggie brunch" menu offers biscuit with sausage gravy and a bacon scramble bowl.
The restaurant recently introduceda new bar and new menu, said co-owner Kay Bracket. The dog menu is a part of the revamp of the restaurant.
"We even had the St. Andrews Salty Dog Mayor Socksdo a doggie brunch," she said. "People love it. It's a big hit."
Dog menu "Lula's Canine Cuisine" at Barracuda Beach, 6628 Thomas Drive, is as delectable. Choose fromwings and things (frilled chicken breast, rice, green beans), a moo moo here (freshly made burger, rice, green beans), grazing (homemade rice and green beans)or by the beautiful sea (pan-seared grouper, rice, green beans).
Salty Sue's, 17501 Panama City Beach Parkway, menu features puppy pork and rice, and chicken and rice plate. The menu is popular with regular customers and a must-have for new ones, according to Bar Manager Zach Major.
"We treat dogs like their family around here. Pet friendliness has always been one of our things," Major said. Dogs can eat and lounge out on an outdoor-covered patio created specifically with them in mind, he noted. And a new dog station that will allow owners to wash their dogs is coming soon.
"We have everything set up for dogs to feel as they were at home whenever they're eating," he added, including bowls, doggie bags if needed, and, appropriately for coastal living, "a spot to sit on the water."
